North Oakland encompasses the neighborhoods between downtown and Berkeley and Emeryville. The main thoroughfare is Telegraph Ave., which has undergone substantial change over the past two decades. The area has become a vibrant commercial hub of restaurants, bars, and shops.
The surrounding residential neighborhoods consist of mostly 20th-century bungalows along tree-lined streets. Mid-sized apartment complexes and multi-family homes are scattered throughout the area. As more housing developments and upscale shops emerged in the last decade, more young families have moved into the neighborhoods.
